Yorkshire’s Best Talent; Notable People from Leeds

Leeds in Yorkshire is a major British city and has been the home of some of the great and good in a variety of different fields and industries.

Here we take a look at some of the people from Leeds worth keeping an eye on.

Sport is a very popular past time in Leeds, particularly football, where the main side, Leeds United, are something of a fallen giant,as they now ply their trade in thefootball league, having once dominated the top flight.

Charlie TaylorThe first Lilly Whites player to keep an eye on is Charlie Taylor, a fullback or winger with England under 19 honours, who has been out on loan at Bradford City and is starting to make his way into the first team reckoning at the club.

 

 

 

Another Leeds player worth keeping an eye on is defender Tom Lees, who has broken in to the first team and played 22 games for the club.

Alex CairnsFinally,goalkeeper Alex Cairns made his debut for Leeds last year and is set to contendfor a place as the number two in the 2012/13 season.

 

 

 

 

Along with football, Rugby Union is huge in Leeds with the Leeds Rhinos the main team.  Young Irish international Luke Ambler is quickly establishing himself as one of the game’s best props, while 19-year old Brad Singleton is being touted to be the next man to follow his footsteps.

Ralph InesonAway from sports, there is a good bunch of Leeds born actors currentlymaking their way through the industry. One man currently making a name for himself right now is Ralph Ineson. Best known to British television fans as Chris Finch from the Office, he has since moved on to appear in huge TV shows like Titanic and Game of Thrones.

 

 

Ineson appeared in Waterloo Road as did fellow Leeds actor Darcy Isa who had a long term part as Lauren Andrews and she is being tipped to have a successful career in television.

Sam RileyAn actor beginning to make his presence felt in feature films is Sam Riley, who appeared as Ian Curtis in a biopic of the Joy Division singers life called Control and has also been in the likes of 13 and Brighton Rock.

 

 

 

Another Leeds native who has broken into film is Christian Cooke. Cooke is probably best known for his role in Cemetery Junction and is also set to play Mercutio in the latest remake of Romeo and Juliet.

Nichola BurleyThe final actor to keep an eye on is Nichola Burley. The Leeds born actress made her name in the likes of Donkey Punch and street Dance 3D and is establishing herself as a mainstay of British cinema.

 

 

 

Another Leeds local to keep an eye on is the excellently named, Baldrick Buckle. Buckle is a successful artist and sculptor based in Amsterdam and has won numerous awards.

Dave HelmThe final person from Leeds to keep an eye on is 32-year old businessman Dave Helm who was crowned 2012 Leeds Young Entrepreneur of the year.
