Successful People from Tijuana

With its beautiful beaches and nonstop party vibe, Tijuana is an interesting and exciting city, a hotbed for tourists and a great place for a night out.

Over the years the Mexican city has produce manytalentedandsuccessful people, here is a look at a few of them, as well as a look at who is going to be successful in the future.


Jesús Zaval

Jesús Zaval

There is a tradition of television soaps and telenovela’s in Mexico and a huge star of that is Jesús Zaval, who made his name playing the role of Hugo Martinez Wampi on soap Esperanza del Corazon.


John Carlos Frey

John Carlos Frey

Also working in film and television, director John Carlos Frey is something of a legend in Mexico. His work includes the 2002 film The Gatekeeper, which he directed and starred in and he is also a prolific documentary maker, directing The Invisible Chapel and The 800 Mile Wall.


Alejandra Espinoza

Beauty shows are a very big deal in Mexico and one beauty queen from Tijuana is Alejandra Espinoza, who has won Univision’s beauty contest based reality show Nuestra Belleza Latina and has subsequently gone on to achieve national fame.


Yessica Ramírez

Espinoza isn’t the only Tijuana beauty queen though. There must be something in the water as Yessica Ramírez also comes from the region and was actually a contestant for Miss World in 2004.


Jackie Nava

Jackie Nava

Fighting is also something the Mexicans take very seriously. Supper-featherweight boxer Jackie Nava is something of a legend in women’s boxing. She was the first ever female winner of a WBC title and lost just three of her 28 fights in an illustrious career.


Yahir Reyes

Yahir Reyes

While boxing is huge in Mexico, and MMA is also going from strength-to-strength, Yahir Reyes is a local fighter who has won 14 of his 21 fights and formerly competedat the Bellator fighting championships and has  a large following.


Villaño IV

Another sort of fighting that is fiercely popular in Mexico is wrestling and a big star of that is Thomas Díaz Mendoza (Villaño IV) who has also wrestled in WCW as well as other companies.


Murcof

Murcof

There is also a thriving musical scene in Tijuana and Murcof is one of the key people to be working in that right now. The Electronica artist has had success with albums Martes and Utopia and has since moved to Spain, but still remains very popular in Mexico.


Julieta Venegas

Julieta Venegas

Another musician from that part of the world is singer songwriter Julieta Venegas. She had success with debut album Aqui, but her bestselling album was 2006’sLimón y Sal, which went platinum in a number of countries.


Lynda Thomas

Lynda Thomas

Finally a future heir to the Venegas’ throne may well be Lynda Thomas. Also a singer and songwriter Thomas has been singing since 1996 releasing a number of albums and has also working with one of Mexico’s biggest pop-group’s,  RBD.
